About Us
Message from the Owner -
The venture of making my own Pepper Jelly started years ago. I spent weekends, summers, and any other free time at my grandparents home where cooking, canning, and gardening was the normal for them.
I developed an interest in cooking and canning as I grew older. Making Pepper Jelly was something I wanted to try and with two small children at home, each having more than one teacher, I decided my pepper jelly would make a great gift for the holidays.
My husband, Bennett Merrick, a sugar cane farmer in Pointe Coupee Parish, insisted that I use raw cane sugar form the local mill and homegrown peppers from our garden. With both of us born, raised, and still residing in Pointe Coupee, which is ultimately a farming parish, I thought that those two ingredients would be appreciated in my jelly.
After a few years of selling my jelly solely for gifts, I decided to do my first market in New Roads, LA. It was a great success. Now that I had friends ordering and boutiques and stores wanting to sell the jelly, I couldn't make it fast enough on my own, even with the help of my two kids and my husband.
It is then that I came in contact with the owner of Parish Foods, LLC, Blaine Gary, who started packaging the jelly for me. After a year of testing and tasting, I gave the final approval and the name Pointe Coupee Jelly was officially on labels, Louisiana Certified, and in multiple local and out of state grocery stores, boutiques, and even casinos!
Our three signature pepper jellies are Jalapeno, Cajun, and Pecan (all pecans are sourced locally from Bergeron's Pecans in New Roads, LA as my mother-in-law has an interest in the plant.)
We make seasonal fruit jellies, as well!
I know that my grandma, who canned all her life, would be so proud of me and my jelly business!
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and visit the site!
